Wanted to share how my eyes work with jewelry making.  I have good light,  magnification from 7.5 - 10 powers.  As I can not see details unless I have contrast, magnifiers come in handy.  I think that is why I like to paint and use colors.  My hubby ad friend also assist when I miss things.  For close up work with only 5% left in each eye when they both work is like looking thru a straw. So because jewelry is small it just fits even though there are blind spots, I can still do this.  how I find my errors in jump rings, strings from glue, ink, or with my painting is with the camera.
I take pictures with my Nikon J1 with either 4x or 10x macro power lens added  or I upload the pics into windows picture gallery and crop pictures to enlarge.  This is when I see issues with my jewelry that I may need to fix.  Then it is back to the Studio to fix whatever and try again.  Thank God that the camera can act as my eyes.  So if you want to try my challenge make something with just two straws for your vision and then have one straw closed off because that eye has taken the day off.  Distance is better.

Anyway,  It is an eye disease that has no cure and will only get worse with time.  So I am truly blessed that God has given me the ability to do what I love making jewelry.

Today is a day of fine tuning pictures.  My daughter and her friend are measuring and helping me organize my jewelry.  I have also been updating photos and adding new jewelry pieces to my shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/howling dog jewelry  Come and take a look.  My Dogwood flowers are now there.  Working on getting my little Tie necklaces up online and my newest enameled metal flowers.

I am also involved in a music challenge. I need to design a piece of jewelry that will relate to a song I like.  Now that is a challenge as I love all kinds of music.  I am a music lover that hears the words and meaning first then the music that goes with it.  I am a hopeless romantic and love songs.  When I was a teenager I would listen to the song and dream that I was that girl in the song.  Sound funny now, but is there anyone else that feels the words of a song in that way?

Welcome!

Well, this is the very first post on my blog.  I was told I should start a blog and share my stories with the jewelry making process and the antics of my crazy dogs and family.

A little bit about me,  I am 57 and married to a wonderful supportive husband and daughters.  My family helps me with all my travels with my jewelry.  As I am blind I do have my challenges with seeing.  But with the help of my good friend and fellow jewelry designer Marie I am able to make my jewelry designs.  She checks things out to make sure jump rings are closed.  I use lots of magnifiers and lights.  Ceramic tiles are used for my jewelry in progress to sit on so that it is easier to find.  I just say that my vision is like looking thru two straws.

I have always liked creating art.  L have dabbled in pen&ink, and watercolors. I can sew children clothes and have made several outfits for my younger daughter.  I remember buying some material in lilac colored tiny flowers when she was 1, Then a few years later I found that I had bought the same material again.  Which all ties into the looks of my English Tea Garden jewelry.  So, I would say that I love lilacs, flowers and the color purple.   I love color and have a good eye for it. I can look at thread, ribbon and take it home and it matches the fabric perfectly.  I don't know to many people that can do that without a sample with them.

The jewelry I make seems to all go with the colors of my wardrobe which will tell you that I like jewel tones more than earth tones.  I do try to make earth tone jewelry but it is , for me thinking outside the box.  My Aunt Doris was a earth tone gal and so when I design earth tone jewelry I always have her in mind.  She had a eye for design and bold colors.  I always say she was the Martha Stewart of her time.  Even though she is no longer with us , she has left an imprint on me and I love her for all she taught me as a child.

Well I guess this is a good start for my first post.  I am a talker so blogging may be right up my alley.  God Bless and have a great day!  Cindy
